Professors José van Dijck, Peter-Paul Verbeek and Tamara Witschge agree on this. Using four questions as a guide, we talk to them about why we want to know things and the role that science plays. One of those questions is 'why is science important?'.

Verbeek: 'Because science emancipates and connects. A critical attitude means that you don’t take everything for granted; it means that you question assumptions and what you have always taken for grant- ed and that you realise that things can also be different."
