Three members of the Leiden Observatory Working Group demonstrate their work and research. Watch and listen while enjoying a real Sip of Science.

The Old Leiden Observatory (Oude Sterrewacht)has a rich history being the oldest surviving university observatory in the world. To ensure it operates smoothly, the Werkgroep Leidse Sterrewacht (WLS) plays an essential role. The work undertaken by the WLS, preserves the astronomical instruments of the Old Leiden Observatory in good technical and functional condition. At this event, we would like to showcase the type of work undertaken by WLS and how they are working to promote the Old Leiden Observatory.

What better way to engage with the general public than hosting an outreach event in a pub! In conjunction with Pint of Science Netherlands and Astronomy on Tap - Leiden, we have an evening where three members of the WLS will present the work they undertake. From developing an optical corrector showing images sharper than the human eye, to explaining the range of images possible with the old telescopes, we have a stargazing evening planned for you.

And of course, you can enjoy the evening with the beer specifically crafted for Leiden 2022, the ‘Sip of Science’ by Brouwerij Pronck. See you there!
