Visit the Earth Science Day in the Hortus Botanicus and discover more about our planet and the network of life on Earth. Try out a tasting, participate in a treasure hunt, or listen to a mini-lecture.

The Hortus Botanicus, in collaboration with Leiden University, has investigated how plants play a role in science. The research was based on 11 subjects, with one topic featured each month in the Hortus.

Earth Day is about preserving our planet: what we can do to protect our world and what we can do about the Earth's soil, which contains a network of life. During Earth Science Day at the Hortus Botanicus, you'll find stalls where you can taste, listen and try out new things. There's also a treasure hunt, and pop-up scientists will give short ten-minute lectures in various places throughout the garden.

Check out Earth Science Day to give yourself a great starting point before you discover the rest of Leiden. Are you coming by bike? Then you can cycle the City Safari Stoepplantjes (Sidewalk plants) route, where you visit 11 points on your own and discover more about Leiden's wild city nature. Prefer walking? No problem! Walkers can do a 'safari' through the various neighbourhoods around the Hortus.

Is it raining outside? Then you're welcome to join us in the Orangerie!

You can find the routes from mid-April. The City Safari is free and in Dutch. For more information about Earth Science Day at the Hortus Botanicus, visit: https://www.hortusleiden.nl/programma/agenda/wetenschappendag-aarde/
