Children will prepare something delicious from the vegetables from their garden. Harvest season has started!

Children (and some volunteers) worked for 5 months to sow, plant, and weed. Now it's harvest time, and the vegetables can finally be reaped. In the school gardens of the Distelvlinder in the Tuin van Noord, de Distelvink in het Park in the Stevenshof, and the Akkerdistel in Park Cronesteyn, children and volunteers will show you what they learned while working in the gardens. Of course, there will also be something to eat! That's what school gardens are all about: showing people where their food comes from and learning to value the process. It also makes kids appreciate vegetables a lot more (which often means they eat more of them as well).

About 650 childen work in a school garden for 1 hour each week. They usually do this during school hours, but for this special afternoon and Leiden2022, they'll come to the garden after school hours. The kids would love to let you indulge in the food they grew and cooked. This can vary from courgette soup to flower herb butter.

Every location can host about 75 people of all ages. The kids and the volunteers speak Dutch and English, and everybody is welcome.

More info about the school gardens and their locations can be found on the website of the Vereniging Leidse Schooltuinen: www.schooltuinenleiden.nl
