The government will make thousands of archival documents public today. During this talk, Cor de Graaf of Heritage Leiden will take you back in time and enlighten you about the city's revival after World War II.

After 75 years of being closed off from the public, today, you can see the government archives from 1946. These include pieces about Leiden's recovery after World War II. What do they reveal? The Council of Poverty was very busy , and the number of marriages rose enormously. The year was dominated by picking up the pieces, reconstruction, boosting morale — and a lack of money.

In the Erfgoedcafé (Heritage Café) in the Volkshuis, you can hear more about the recovery of the city and the process of rebuilding trust after World War II. Cor de Graaf of Heritage Leiden will take you back in time and tell us all about life after the crisis.

The Heritage Café is organised four times a year for Leiden residents interested in history, each time at a different historical location. Everybody is welcome! Register in advance via Erfgoedcafeleiden.nl. Registration is open from December 1.

BplusC, Erfgoedcafé Leiden and Erfgoed Leiden en Omstreken cordially invite you to Het Leidse Volkshuis. The activity is in Dutch.
