Documented via old photos, drawings, and postcards.
Some of the most unexpected cultural fusions have taken place alongside the Silk Road. The Silk Road, a term thought up by German geologist Baron Ferdinand von Richthofen in 1877, has intrigued scientists in the last few years. The artistic vivacity of the empires stretching from China to Byzantium is mirrored in their cultural production. Their artistic prowess, combined with their immaculate decorum, was the result of constant exchanges between and fusions of traditions.
This exhibition will show Islamic architectual monuments (mosks, madrasas, mausoleums) in the most important cities alongside the Silk Road. Special attention will be given to Herat (Afghanistan), Mashhad and Sultaniyya (Iran), Turkestan (Kazachstan), Marv and Anau (Turkmenistan), Samarqand, Bukhara and Shahr-i Sabz (Oezbekistan).
The exhibition is open to the public from the 3rd of August 2022 to the 23rd of September 2022.
It can be viewed between 7:30 and 18:00 during all week-days.
The exhibition is closed during the weekends.
