The LIBC & the municipality of Leiden are organizing a Day for the Public regarding brain-and-neuroresearch. This year, this day will be held in a hybrid form!

This day is meant for everyone with an interest in this subject. However, all presentations will be given in Dutch.

During this day the following questions (and others) will be answered:

  • Can the brain of a judge interpret evidence (DNA, camera footage) in a way which makes the truth come out?
  • What do abnormalities in the brain of a suspect mean for the suspect's accountability?
  • Can we influence the brains of convicts to ensure they won't commit crimes again?
  • How does the development of the brain influence changes in decision-making skills, risky behaviour, and social behaviour during teenage years, on which the juvenile justice system is based?
  • The brains of adult perpetrators can get confused on the basis of brain injury or psychological disorders. Does that influence criminal behaviour?
  • Are the neurobiological aspects of criminals any different from the rest of society? And how can this information be used during the punishment, treatment and re-integration of convicts?
  • What are the newest insights and techniques in neurological research, and in what way can we use those insights within the confines of criminal justice? What are the most recent juridical (and ethical) insights?

Location: Stadsgehoorzaal, Breestraat 60, Leiden or you can view it via live stream. There's more information on this website.
