- The activity has to be postponed due to COVID. A new date will be decided a.s.a.p. -

Archaeological Park Matilo is located between the districts Roomburg and Meerburg in Leiden. In the beginning of our era the Romans built a fort here: castellum Matilo. It is now hidden under the park. This archaeological treasure trove was declared a national monument in 1976. Today, Jip Meijer of the Mooi Matilo Foundation will show you around Matilo Park and explain all about the Roman roads in the Netherlands.

Join the workshop and learn all about the Groma, a Roman measuring instrument. After the guided tour and the workshop, you can relax and enjoy simple Roman snacks and drinks.

Location: At the Fabrica in Park Matilo. The Fabrica is a container within the ramparts of the fort.

Time: 14.00 - 17.00 hrs

Ticket: Free
