Talking about crisis
- Speeltuin Westerkwartier
The climate crisis. The news is full of it. Extreme weather events, droughts and floods are even driving people from their homes. Will you come talk to us about this difficult topic?
Today, huge numbers of people are fleeing due to natural disasters. These populations are increasingly vulnerable in the absence of protection. Climate Displacement threatens sustainable development and reinforces global inequality. What do humans do after a natural disaster due to a hurricane? What do humans do when a blind war cuts off water supplies? How is the climate and migration debate progressing?
Jan Peter Wiersema will take you in a presentation, "traveling" to countries where climate migration has become a contemporary practice. Jan spent several years volunteering in Tanzania for an NGO focused on sustainable business and has experienced the effects of climate change in Africa in his projects.
Together with the Leids Steunloket Migranten, you will not only listen to Jan, but you will also get to work yourself. In a number of climate tables, propositions will be discussed with each other and presented.
There will be open discussion about this difficult topic in a friendly atmosphere. Be welcome to exchange thoughts while enjoying tasty snacks, drinks and live music by a 70/80/90 pop band called Out of the Blue Band.
