Leiden Global organiseert samen met de Faculteit der Archeologie en Universiteit Leiden deze tentoonstelling over ambacht en cultuur.

Crafting Cultures
Ambacht en innovatie zijn altijd hand in hand gegaan. Tegenwoordig is een wereldwijde herwaardering van ambacht en vakmanschap duidelijk merkbaar. Dit is geen nostalgische terugkeer naar een geïdealiseerd verleden. Het is een zoektocht naar een duurzamere samenleving. Ambachten kunnen een centrale rol spelen in verschillende wetenschappen en innovatie.

Fototentoonstelling
Onderzoekers uit verschillende disciplines komen tijdens hun werk in contact met ambachten,  soms als hoofdonderwerp, soms toevallig. Deze tentoonstelling toont foto's van onderzoekers - verbonden aan LeidenGlobal partners - die betrekking hebben op het thema vakmanschap en innovatie door ambacht.

Who knows
Prof. Pieter ter Keurs is voorzitter van LeidenGlobal en initiatiefnemer van de fototentoonstelling over Crafting Cultures. Prof. Ter Keurs is ook hoogleraar ‘Museums, Collections and Society’ aan de faculteiten Archeologie en Geesteswetenschappen van de Universiteit Leiden en wetenschappelijk directeur van het LDE Centre for Global Heritage and Development.
Dr. Maikel Kuijpers is adviseur geweest voor deze fototentoonstelling. Dr. Kuijpers is universitair docent Europese Prehistorie aan de Archeologie Faculteit van de Universiteit Leiden met een brede interesse en expertise in vakmanschap, vaardigheid en cognitie.
Prof. Luc Amkreutz is deelnemer aan de fototentoonstelling met zijn item ‘Sporen van oude lijm’ dat hij vond tijdens zijn onderzoek op Doggerland. Prof. Amkreutz is conservator prehistorische collecties van het Rijksmuseum van Oudheden en sinds 1 april bijzonder hoogleraar Openbare Archeologie aan de faculteit Archeologie van de Universiteit Leiden. Tijdens de opening op 31 mei zal hij contextinformatie geven over zijn foto in de tentoonstelling.

Crafting Cultures
Crafts and innovation have always gone hand in hand. Nowadays a global re-evaluation of craft and craftsmanship is clearly noticeable. This is not a nostalgic return to an idealised past. It is a search to achieve a more sustainable society. Crafts can play a central role in different sciences and innovation.

Photo Exhibition
Scholars from various disciplines have dealt with crafts in their research, sometimes as main topic, sometimes accidental. This exhibition shows photographs by researchers – affiliated to LeidenGlobal partners – that relate to the theme of craftsmanship and innovation through craft.

Prof. Pieter ter Keurs is Chairperson of LeidenGlobal and is initiator of the photo exhibition on Crafting Cultures. Prof. Ter Keurs is also Professor of ‘Museums, Collections and Society’ at the faculties of Archaeology and Humanities of Leiden University, and Scientific Director of the LDE Centre for Global Heritage and Development.
Dr. Maikel Kuijpers has been advisor for this photo exhibition since the start. Dr. Kuijpers is Assistant Professor in European Prehistory at the Faculty of Archaeology of Leiden University with a broad interest and expertise in craftsmanship, skill, and cognition. 
Prof. Luc Amkreutz is participant of the photo exhibition with his item ‘Traces of ancient glue’ which he found during his research on Doggerland. Prof. Amkreutz is curator of prehistoric collections at the National Museum of Antiquities and Since April 1st he is Professor by Special Appointment in Public Archaeology at the faculty of Archaeology of Leiden University. During the opening he will give context information on his photograph in the exhibition.
