Frankenstein’s monster was raised from the dead in a lab. It seems like lots of things in a lab are alive. Even things you might not expect. Bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms are a crucial part of laboratory research. But the outside world can also be viewed as a living lab made up out of large and tiny organisms. In Leiden, there’s a Leiden University project called het Levend Lab (the Living Lab). This lab consists of 32 ditches which are constantly observed by people of all ages.
