SPINE
“He’s spineless!” When we say something like this, we’re usually implying that someone gives in easily under pressure. But actually living without a backbone? It’s virtually impossible. In a healthy person, the spine is made up of vertebrae and discs stacked on top of each other in an S-shape. Simply understood, you can think of it as a tube full of nerves and spinal cord that controls everything in your body. Your parents may have nagged you to sit up straight. And they were right to! Your spine is very vulnerable. It’s therefore not surprising to learn that almost two million people in the Netherlands suffer from back problems.
